> Australian researchers have found that the interiors of new cars emit vast quantities of toxic chemicals for up to six months after manufacture. Researchers for the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation in Adelaide, who completed their two-year study in 2001, found that the level of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) measured inside three test cars were as much as 128 times higher than the recommended Australian exposure limit--much higher than the levels found in buildings in which people get sick, known scientifically as sick building syndrome.
