Decaf

Better Nutrition, July, 2004

MYTH: Switching to decaffeinated coffee will prevent the jitters as well as heartburn.

TRUTH: Decaf can have some of the same effects on the body as regular coffee. It can cause heartburn or irritate stomach ulcers in susceptible people, just like the higher octane stuff. And oddly enough--even without the caffeine--Swedish researchers say it, too, can stimulate the nervous system and briefly elevate blood pressure in those unaccustomed to coffee.
