Better Nutrition, Sept, 2004 by Judi Halevy
Thanks for a great article by by Art Ditmar ("Get Down," July 2004, p. 40). It seemed thoroughly researched, wall-written and easy to read. However, I was looking for information on something that should be about number 15 on your list [of ways to lower blood pressure]: hibiscus tea. This tea has traditionally been used in African/Middle Eastern/Hispanic cultures, and a study performed in Iran and reported in the June 1999 issue of the Journal of Ethnopharmacology concluded: "This study proves the public belief and fine results of in vitro studies concerning the effects of sour tea on lowering high blood pressure" (abstract and full reference attached).

Thanks for passing that along to us. The study looks interesting, and we'll try to follow up with more information on hibiscus in a future issue. We want to cover issues that interest our readers, so we always appreciate it when you send us this type of information. Thanks again.
