SUNNYVALE, CALIF. -- Yahoo has decided to get out of the European auction business and hand over the bidding gavel to eBay. A multiyear, multimillion-dollar deal will give San Jose, Calif.-based eBay the auction operations of Yahoo in Britain, Ireland, Italy, Spain, Germany and France. As part of the agreement, eBay will pay Yahoo for marketing exposure, such as the display of an eBay link on Yahoo European sites.

The move comes after Yahoo continued to see its European auction operations falter. Yahoo will continue to operate its auction sites in Sweden, Norway, Denmark and the United States.
