Military jackets - What's Hot - juniors clothing

DSN Retailing Today, June 23, 2003

Military jackets are winning retail victories from American Eagle to Zara this season.

One particularly meritorious trait of this trend is that it is just hitting its stride with juniors customers. The look has already translated well from runway to reality with young misses customers, a wearable alternative to one of last year's best-sellers, the jean jacket. The canvas, twill or cotton duck military jacket is also a versatile topper, coordinating with the jeans still selling well in misses and juniors, and with the cargo pant, which is poised to make a mass-market comeback in '04.

"The military jacket continue to be popular, updated with new colors like chocolate brown instead of the standard khaki," noted a spokeswoman at H&M, which has carried the item both last and this year.

Featuring ticking stripes and prints or in sanded dusty neutrals, the military jacket keeps conquering new retail territory-and customers.
