Shaw's to rollout self-checkouts - Shaw's Supermarkets - Brief Article

DSN Retailing Today, July 23, 2001

ATLANTA -- Shaw's Supermarkets of New England is the latest food retailer to rollout self-checkouts in its stores. The 185-store chain tested the program and has ordered 30 stations from NCR Corporation. By 2002, Shaw's plans to have three self-checkout lanes per store in all of its units. Texas-based HEB, meanwhile, announced the same week it is testing a self-checkout system in one of its stores and will be evaluating the performance over the next several months.

Most large supermarket chains and discounters have either begun installing or are testing self-checkouts.
