SEATTLE -- Amazon.co.uk and Waterstone's, the U.K.'s leading specialist bookseller, have formed a strategic alliance. Under the agreement, Waterstone's on-line bookselling site, waterstones.co.uk, will be relaunched and powered by Amazon's e-commerce platform. No financial terms of this alliance were disclosed.

A Waterstone's team will provide the distinctive editorial content for the new site, which has already established a loyal following. Amazon.co.uk, the third largest traditional book retailer and No. 1 on-line retailer in the United Kingdom, will be the seller of record and provide inventory, fulfillment, other content and customer service for the site. The site launched is planned for fall. The site will continue to feature store locations, promotions and events information, Waterstone's plans to promote the site in its physical stores.
