The Home Depot - Retailer News - Tool rental centers opened at 500 stores - Brief Article

DSN Retailing Today, August 12, 2002

Tool rental centers have been rolled out to 500 stores, or nearly 40%, of The Home Depot's 1,400 stores. Within four years, most stores should have this service. Home Depot began experimenting with tool rental in 1998 with a display section of 2,000 square feet devoted to tools, such as concrete saws, pressure washers post-hole diggers and tile rollers.

Meanwhile, Home Depot has ended its three-market test of a home services program with ServiceMaster Company. The pilot program included such services as lawn care, pest control, carpet cleaning and plumbing. While results were positive, they did not meet the expectations of both companies, according to a joint news release issued by the companies.
