Improving sales trends at Food and Kash n' Karry and continued strong sales at Hannaford--but mostly a shift in Easter--helped Delhaize America achieve 0.7% U.S. comparable-store sales growth in the fiscal 2003 second quarter. Total sales as recorded by the subsidiary's Belgian parent company decreased by 12.5% to euro 4.6 billion, impacted by a 19.2% weakening of the U.S.

dollar against the European currency. Organic sales growth was 2.8%, the company reported.
