ISSAQUAH, WASH. -- With its membership renewals at an all-time high of 86% for its 1999 fiscal year, which ended August 1999, Costco has decided to increase the cost of its Gold Star membership fee by $5.

The reason for the increase was to help cover operational costs, according to the renewal notice, so the company can keep its prices low. The increase is expected to be in place chainwide by October.
