Kroger to buy Furrs stores - Buys 7 New Mexico supermarkets - Brief Article

CINNCINATI -- Kroger is purchasing seven New Mexico supermarkets from Furrs. Four of the former Furrs are located in Albuquerque, while three stores are in Santa Fe, Los Alamos and Socorro. In turn, Fleming has acquired five Smith's Food & Drug stores from Kroger in El Paso, Texas, and Las Cruces, N.M.

Fleming will operate the five locations as part of its price-impact retail group under the Rainbow name.
