DSN Retailing Today, Sept 23, 2002

Apparel luminaries lit up New York's Roosevelt Hotel last month as hundreds gathered to fete the best of the business at the 2002 SPARC Soft Lines Awards.

Manufacturers and retailers networked at the pre-award cocktail reception before the ceremony that lauded merchandisers in key product categories.

Apparel Merchandising publisher Paula Lashinsky hosted the event and awarded Phillip Dunn, vice president of consumer marketing for VF Jeanswear, the coveted Vendor of the Year Award.

Awards at the event, now in its ninth year, were bestowed on vendors voted best of category by their retailing partners.

SPARC Committee members include Lois Mikita, senior vice president, general merchandise manager, Wal-Mart; Nick Just, senior vice president and general merchandise manager, Kmart; and Don Smith, vice president of fashions for Zellers. The committee was chaired by Denis Lemire, president, coo, Ames.
