Misinformation spelled bad news for branded film manufacturers late last month, Kodak in particular. Kodak shares dropped, in part, on false reports that Wal-Mart had signed an exclusive deal to sell Polaroid brand film in lieu of launching a private-label line. Although a Wal-Mart spokesman later said he misspoke, Wall Street's reaction was swift; Kodak shares dropped 8% on the news.
