Dollar General appoints temporary ceo - Market Watch - Donald Shaffer - Brief Article

DSN Retailing Today, Nov 25, 2002

GOODLETTSVILLE, TENN. -- Dollar General named president and coo Donald Shaffer acting ceo while the company continues its search for a replacement for Cal Turner, Jr., who resigned the ceo position earlier this year. The appointment of an acting ceo was necessary so that Dollar General could comply with the Securities and Exchange Commission's recently enacted requirement that senior officers of public companies certify financial results.

Shaffer, 59, is a retail veteran but a relative newcomer to Dollar General. He joined the company in 2001 after a 30-year career with Sears.
