Designer stools

DSN Retailing Today, Jan 24, 2005 by Debbie Howell

Shop stools featuring colorful logos, designs or automotive television show licenses have become a hot impulse item targeting weekend do-it-yourself garage mechanics and the growing overlap between garage and recreation areas. These retro-look stools made by companies such as Alltrade Tools and Plasticolor sell for $30 to $40.

"They've been a continuing success for us," said marketing director Andy Somerville of Alltrade's stool line. "This is our third selling season and we're up to about 15 different styles."

Alltrade sells stools in auto-related designs and ones associated with Hot Rod, Holley and Nos licenses. Floor mat maker Plasticolor this year launched a line tied to licenses such as Monster Garage, Orange County Choppers, West Coast Customs, John Deere and Ford.
