SANTA MONICA CALIF. -- Stamps.com Inc. posted a smaller net loss and cash loss from continuing operations than expected for its fourth quarter, but said revenue fell in the quarter. Net loss for the quarter was $987,000, or 2 cents per share, compared with a net loss of $68.4 million, or $1.41 per share, in the year-earlier period.

Excluding special items and discontinued operations, the e-tailer posted a cash loss from continuing operations of $273,000, or 1 cent per share, compared with a loss on a similar basis of $29 million, or 60 cents per share, a year earlier. Revenue was $4.5 million, down from $5.3 million a year earlier. The company also expects revenue to be down slightly in the first half of this year because of decreased marketing.
