Industry: Email Alert RSS FeedSony's PSP handheld
DSN Retailing Today, Feb 28, 2005 by Doug Desjardins
Sony's new PlayStation Portable game console won't make its United States debut until March 24 but it's already a hot commodity. Sony will have 1 million units for sale during the first week of release available in a $250 "value pack" that will include accessories and a movie.
The handheld console is expected to give the game industry a much-needed boost, but the real buzz about PSP is its applications outside gaming. The unit--which Sony officials call "an entertainment device"--features a 4.3-inch screen and can play digital music and movies on a proprietary "universal media disc" developed by Sony. The first 1 million "value packs" sold will include a copy of "Spider-Man 2."
