Sporting Goods Manufacturers Association - Physical Education for Progress Act passed - Brief Article

DSN Retailing Today, March 6, 2001

The P.E. 4Life initiative, born out of the efforts of the Sporting Goods Manufacturers Association a little more than a year ago, achieved success recently when Congress passed the Physical Education for Progress Act. This bill appropriates $400 million in grant money over the next five years to fund improvements in physical education for K-12 students.

Also, The National Coalition for Promoting Physical Activity, a creation of the American College of Sports Medicine, recently received a $400,000 grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation that allows the organization to open a Washington, D.C., office to conduct lobbying efforts on physical inactivity.
