Phys ed. got a modest boost as funding for the Physical Education for Progress program was increased to $60 million in 2003. That's up from $50 million in 2002 and just $5 million in 2001, the year the program began. The money is used to help schools purchase equipment and train teachers. To access funds, schools submit requests to the U.S. Department of Education.
