GOODLETTSVILLE, TENN. -- Dollar General has added new finance and accounting expertise to its board of directors. James Robbins was named to the retailer's board and also will serve as chairman of its audit committee. The company's accounting practices, which led to past earnings being restated downward, are under investigation by the Securities and Exchange Commission, and Dollar General's debt recently was downgraded by the credit rating agency Moody's.

Robbins is an accounting veteran who served as a managing partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers since 1993. He joined the predecessor to that firm, Coopers & Lybrand, in 1968.
