ENT, August 18, 1999
Microsoft Corp. quietly released Service Pack 1 (SP1) for SQL Server 7.0 this summer.
The bundle includes 48 bug fixes for SQL Server and Microsoft Data Engine (MSDE) 1.0 and three bug fixes for SQL Server OLAP Services 7.0. Microsoft officials say a lack of high-profile, major bugs that needed to be addressed with the service pack accounts for the low-profile release. The service pack followed the release of the product by about six months.
SP1 contains some new features, including cell-level security in OLAP Services and enhancements to Data Transformation Services wizards.

Microsoft has broken the service pack into a database components piece and an OLAP services piece as a courtesy to users who have one but not the other installed. The database piece of SP1 is a 38.6 MB download for Intel-based systems; the OLAP Services piece is 49.4 MB download.
