Datacenter Server App Certification Testing Begins - Company Business and Marketing - Brief Article

ENT, Oct 11, 2000

Lionbridge Technologies Inc. began testing applications for Windows 2000 Datacenter Server certification the day the new high-end operating system was released last month.

Lionbridge's initial testing is occurring at its Veritest (www.veritest.com) lab in Los Angeles. Three more Veritest labs are scheduled to start Datacenter testing later.

To ensure reliability with Datacenter Server, which will compete with Unix/RISC systems, Microsoft Corp. is making end users buy the operating system preconfigured on a complete system directly from a handful of hardware vendors that have run the configuration through a 14-day stress test and will support the system 24x7.

ISVs seeking to certify applications for Datacenter Server also face a higher bar than the current Windows 2000 Professional, Server, and Advanced Server logo programs. That certification test is so extensive that only about 120 applications have passed.

Veritest technicians will check applications to ensure that they operate correctly on a 32-processor system, a four-node cluster, a system with greater than 4 GB of memory, among other Datacenter-only requirements. ISVs must also demonstrate a 24x7 customer support infrastructure.
