Stratus Computer Systems says its fault-tolerant, four-processor Stratus ftServer 6500, which supports Windows 2000 Datacenter Server as well as Windows 2000 Server and Advanced Server, will be shipped in February 2001.
The two-way ftServer 5200 for Windows 2000 Server and Advanced Server, which also possesses the fault-tolerant technology, will ship in December. The original plan was for the ft5200 to ship in September and the ft6500 in October.
"We ran into some hardware integration issues we didn't anticipate," explains Ken Donoghue, Stratus (www.stratus.com) spokesman. "Primarily the delay came in marrying our fault-tolerant technology to a new architecture with industry-standard components."

Both products offer the option of dual- or triple-modular redundancy. The ftServer 6500, using Intel's 700-MHz Pentium III Xeon processors, starts at $30,500. The ftServer 5200, using Intel's 550-MHz Pentium III Xeon processors, starts at $23,300.
Since the release of Windows 2000 Datacenter Server was delayed, it appears a February release of Stratus ft6500 will be timely in terms of when customer interest in Windows 2000 Datacenter Server is expected increase significantly.
