ISS Adds SmartScan to Internet Scanner - Internet Security Systems' Internet Scanner 5.6 network security software - Brief Article - Product Announcement

ENT, Feb 3, 1999

Internet Security Systems Inc. (ISS) released the network security vulnerability detection software Internet Scanner 5.6. The new version has SmartScan technology and 85 new detection methods for identifying and eliminating security weaknesses in Windows NT configurations, as well as increased performance and product navigation features.

SmartScan technology is designed to behave much like a real network intruder. It remembers and automatically applies information gathered during network scans to gain insight into an organization's overall vulnerability posture. The software detects inner-related, network- based vulnerabilities; learns from the vulnerabilities; and builds on this knowledge to discover additional weaknesses that could go undetected. Internet Scanner's reports provide information that addresses these security issues.

SmartScan uses an accumulated list of user account information, passwords and domain trust relationships to make connections between security weaknesses.
