ENT, May 24, 2000
Microsoft Corp. posted Service Pack 6 (SP6) for Windows NT Server 4.0, Terminal Server Edition, on its Web site.
Release of Service Packs for terminal server have been following Service Pack releases for the general operating system by several months: This one is no exception. It comes five months after Windows NT 4.0 SP6a came out in late November. A slightly earlier release of SP6 introduced problems in Lotus messaging environments and had to be reissued.

The new Service Pack rolls up all fixes that were included in Terminal Server SP4 and SP5 as well as changes included in the general SP6a. Terminal Server SP6 includes 50 fixes over and above the previous fixes. Those include several hang conditions, printing problems, and interoperability problems with SAP AG (www.sap.com) and Novell Inc. (www.novell.com) software and Compaq Computer Corp. (www.compaq.com) hardware.
Terminal Server SP6 is not a required upgrade. Microsoft is maintaining Sp4 and later service packs as Year 2000 compliant, and the company is keeping SP3 Y2K compliant with minor issues through Jan. 1.
New copies of Windows NT Server 4.0, Terminal Server Edition, do not contain SP6. The new Service Pack is available only in a 128-bit high encryption download. According to Microsoft, the Remote Desktop Protocol encryption level will default to the level set prior to installation of the Service Pack.
