NURSING COURSE 101
The AORN Center for Perioperative Education's Perioperative Nursing Course 101 is presented in a scripted, modular format and contains posttests, bibliographies, handouts, glossaries, required reading assignments, recommended videotapes, guidelines for preceptors, a final examination, and contact hours. Visual aids are provided on CD-ROM. Topics include scrubbing, gowning, and gloving; skin preparation; positioning; sterilization and disinfection; and surgical draping. Perioperative Nursing Leaders Think Globally Act Locally--The Challenge of Patient Safety and the Nursing Shortage.

Patient safety and the nursing shortage are two of the most important issues facing health care today. How nursing leaders address these issues will be key in shaping the delivery of patient care for the future. AORN Multispecialty Conference and Federated Ambulatory Surgery Association (FASA) Annual Nurses Seminar.

As a nursing professional, it is hard to stay up to date with skills, the latest trends, and issues that apply specifically to your profession. AORN and FASA have joined to provide great education in one location. Attendees will gain information specific to their specialties.
This conference is designed for clinical staff members, administrators, OR directors, and managers of inpatient units, ambulatory surgery centers, and rural/small hospitals; educators; clinical specialists; consultants; industry representatives; and anyone involved with nursing informatics. A special presentation titled "Laser Concepts in Health Care" will be given on Sunday.
AORN Multispecialty Conference.

The education content included at this conference will relate to clinical practice issues. Specialty areas included are advanced technology, cardiothoracics, neurosurgery, orthopedics, pediatrics, and RN first assistants. A special presentation titled "Patient Safety Begins with Staff Education: Lasers in the OR" will be given on Sunday.
Upcoming conferences. Watch for Preparation for CNOR Certification in Florida and Quest for Knowledge in Philadelphia. These conferences are being scheduled for early November 2002.

Ambulatory Surgery Administrator Certificate Program. The second offering of this program begins with a meeting in Denver Aug 16 to 17, 2002. The remainder of the Ambulatory Surgery Administrator Certificate Program will be conducted online. This program addresses what nurses and physicians need to get on the leadership fast track. Participants who complete the 11 online modules will receive their certificates in June 2003. Course titles include
