40 years ago in OR Nursing - Perioperative Time Capsule - Brief Article

AORN Journal, July, 2002

An article in the July/August 1962 issue of OR Nursing deals with specialized nursing care for early rehabilitation of patients with burns. Rehabilitation for these patients, according to the article, begins at the time of injury. * "Clinical Briefs" describes a super-cold knife that has been developed to freeze and destroy tissue around its tip.

The knife has been used successfully on more than 150 patients to treat tremors associated with palsy. * The emergency room is "the weakest link" in most hospitals' chain of care, according to one author. * "News and Views" announces that the Public Health Service has set up a new field center in San Francisco. This center is the first to be established specifically for nursing studies.
