AORN FOUNDATION EVENTS

This year's Congress marks one-half century of progress and fellowship for perioperative nurses. It also seems an appropriate time to look ahead to the next 50 years, which is precisely the purpose of the AORN Foundation. Stop by the Foundation during Congress to find out about the Foundation's programs and goals, as well as educational scholarships, research grants, and upcoming events and activities. You are invited to make a contribution to the Foundation and will receive special recognition for doing so. Learn about what the Foundation can do for you and what you can do for the Foundation.

In addition to sponsoring an education session by business leader and philanthropist H. Ross Perot on "Nursing Leadership: The Crucial Ingredient for Health Care," the AORN Foundation will be highly visible at the following Congress events and activities. Please use the registration form in the Congress brochure or visit AORN Online at http://www.aorn .org/foundation to purchase tickets to attend the Black Tie Gala or to register for the 5K Run/Walk.

Black Tie Gala. Formal, festive, and fun--the Black Tie Gala is the AORN Foundation's premier fund-raising event of the year, as well as an elegant and glamorous tradition of saying thank you to the major donors who support the Foundation. The AORN Foundation invites Congress attendees to join in a special celebration to recognize supporters of the Foundation at the Black Tie Gala, Monday, March 24, at 7 PM. Space is limited, so register early to attend this fabulous Congress event. Tickets are $250 if purchased in advance and $300 at the door.

Sixth Annual 5K Run/Walk. All 2003 Congress attendees are invited to participate in this popular event, which is a great way to start the day and contribute to the AORN Foundation's many worthy causes. Last year, more than 400 attendees registered for the race, so sign up early to reserve your T-shirt. Refreshments will be provided after the race. Registration is $25 in advance or $30 at Congress. If you are interested in sponsorship information, please contact the Foundation office at (800) 755-2676 x 366.

UNIQUE PRE-CONGRESS SESSION

A pre-Congress session, "Mediation Techniques for the Health Care Professional," offers topnotch mediation training in a highly interactive, humorous atmosphere. Debra Gerardi, RN, MPH, JD, the presenter of this session, believes there is a connection between improvisation and mediation. "The idea of improv is to create something from whatever is on the minds of the people who are there," she says. "I realized improv and mediation are very similar in their principles for enabling a group to work together, and I started using improv games to teach conflict-resolution skills. They fit perfectly."
