2003 slate of candidates - Candidates

AORN Journal,  Jan, 2003

This article lists the candidates for AORN national offices. The annual election will be held during the 2003 Congress on Thursday, March 27, from 7 to 10:30 AM in room E253d of McCormick Place. Results will be announced the same day at the second session of the House of Delegates from 1:30 to 3 PM. Results also will be available at AORN Headquarters and on AORN Online. A reception for all candidates will be held in room 354b of McCormick Place on Thursday, March 27, at 3:15 PM.

Additional nominations may be made from the floor at the first session of the House of Delegates, which begins at 1 PM on Monday, March 24. All candidates will appear at the Meet the Candidates session on Sunday, March 23, from 11 AM to 12:15 PM in Hall D. Members also can meet with candidates at the Nominating Committee booth. Delegates are required to attend all business-related sessions; alternates and other AORN members are encouraged to attend.

The following pages contain biographical data and election statements for all candidates. Biographical data are limited to the past 10 years, so professional activities before 1993 are not reflected. Space limitations do not permit listing candidates' elected or appointed positions in local nursing or other professional associations. Members who have questions about candidates' speaking engagements, published works, student status, or other professional activities can ask them at the Candidates' Caucus, Sunday, March 23, from 1:30 to 3 PM.

In the following election statements, candidates were given free rein to address professional issues facing nursing in general or perioperative nursing into connect with us, we need to look at ways to strengthen how AORN connects with members.

I believe in the value of the perioperative nurse and will fight for our role and priorities. I believe we must continuously educate others about our worth. We have been too mild in informing the public about the impact we have. We must make our value front-page news. The perioperative nurse is the one professional who can influence the different interests in the OR. We also have thousands of stories where we have touched patients' lives. We need to celebrate those successes while helping the public do the same thing.

As your President, I will dedicate my term to reconnecting with the members, increasing the value of chapters to the members, educating the public about our value, advancing legislative issues, and representing the needs of perioperative nursing. It will be my honor to serve you."
