AORN Journal, Jan, 2004

New features for the 1994 Congress in New Orleans include a newcomer orientation and speaker book signings. * A study finds that 80% of perioperative nurses surveyed believed they were at significant risk for exposure to HIV and hepatitis B from blood and body fluids. The authors were concerned that 20% of respondents did not believe they were at risk.

* The AORN Board reports that they agreed by consensus to endorse the Clinton Administration's health care reform bill. * An author says that increased technology has diverted perioperative nurses attention away from patients to calibrating machines, inspecting equipment, and counting instruments.
