Chapter of the Year Awards
For the 2005 Congress, members of the Membership, Legislative, and Research Committees and the National Committee on Education selected five areas for chapters to compete in for the Chapter of the Year Awards. These areas include membership, research, newsletter, outstanding achievement in continuing education, and legislative involvement.
Committee members solicited chapters to complete individual surveys, scored the surveys, and submitted the point scores to the Awards Committee. Members of the Awards Committee used composite points to determine award recipients. Chapter of the Year Awards recognize winners in each of the chapter size categories (ie, small, medium, intermediate, large). Each category may have a gold, silver, and bronze winner. A chapter may be the recipient of the Chapter of the Year Award (ie, gold) in its size category only once every three years; however, chapters may be selected for silver or bronze awards in consecutive years. For more information about these awards, contact Lorrie Briggs by telephone at (800) 755-2676 x 367 or by e-mail at lbriggs@aorn.org.
Writers Contest Awards
The Writers Contest Awards recognize authors of quality AORN Journal articles. There are four article categories in this contest--clinical/ambulatory, education, research, and management. For an article to be considered, at least one author of a manuscript must be an RN and an AORN member. All Journal authors who meet this requirement and whose articles are published during the calendar year preceding Congress are eligible for the contest. Winning articles in each category are chosen based on points awarded by Journal editors, Review Panel members, and Editorial Board members. Winners will share award money provided by Medi-Flex, Inc, Leawood, Kan. Each winner of the Writers Contest also receives a certificate of achievement.
