AORN Journal, Jan, 2005
The AORN Nominating Committee met at Headquarters on July 18 to 20, 2004, to develop the 2005 ballot of candidates for national offices, the Board of Directors, and the Nominating Committee and to discuss plans for the 2005 Congress. All AORN members may use the sample ballot on the right to communicate their preferences to their delegates. Only authorized delegates may vote in the election at Congress. Additional nominations may be made from the floor during the first session of the House of Delegates. Before nomination, however, the eligibility of additional nominees must be verified, and consent-to-serve forms must be completed.

This year, the Nominating Committee used the nomination form introduced last year to obtain more information about candidates' leadership experience and qualifications. This information was used in candidate selection and is reflected in the candidates' biographical information. Please note that biographical information is only for the past 10 years. Candidates' membership in chapters may be longer than 10 years, but only dates 10 years back are included in parentheses following an activity.
Candidates' Forum
The Nominating Committee has heard your requests, and this year, the Candidates' Forum will be a continuous session beginning at 2:15 PM on April 3, 2005, in Halls A/B-1 of the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center, New Orleans. Immediately after the Candidates' Forum, members will have an opportunity to meet with candidates individually until 5:45 PM. During this time, members can ask candidates additional questions.
Written Campaigning
The AORN Nominating Committee has created a statement about written campaigning so candidates are clear on the roles they should follow during campaigning. To promote fairness and equity among the candidates, AORN strictly prohibits written campaigning in any form. This includes, but is not limited to, promoting the candidacy of any individual via written letters, cards, e-mail, listserv communications, and advertisements.
Infractions of this policy will be addressed by the Nominating Committee with recommendations to the AORN Board of Directors and could result in the candidate's immediate removal from the AORN slate of candidates. For questions or clarification on this policy, please contact Deborah G. Spratt, chair of the Nominating Committee, at 2170 S Parker Road, Suite 300, Denver, CO 802-315711 or (800) 755-2676 x 219.
