Election Statement: At our 2004 national Congress, we were encouraged to celebrate our value as perioperative nurses. We have listened to the next generation of perioperative nurses and have heard their ideas to improve the profession. We have more work to do.

As a member of the adjunct faculty at Maria College, I share my passion and knowledge of perioperative nursing with the next generation. I encourage them to become proactive in their profession, to become student members of AORN, and to seek positions in ORs on graduation. We need to open our arms to them so they can become safe practitioners.

The leadership opportunities presented to me locally, statewide, and nationally have enabled me to meet members from rural areas as well as prestigious medical centers. I have heard your concerns affecting our profession: shortages, retention, recruitment, quality education, and funding for future nurses and educators. I believe my experiences will enable me to select the future leaders of AORN who will meet the needs of our members. As a member of your Nominating Committee, I will seek leaders who will advocate for the role of the RN in the OR In state legislative arenas as well as in Washington, DC. I will seek leaders who are not afraid to speak out and be heard, celebrate our value, and share our knowledge of perioperative nursing. They will be our future mentors and guide us with their vision. They will make a difference. I humbly seek your support.
