AORN's just culture tool kit available online

Analyzing data collected on medical errors is an important part of improving patient safety; however, these analytical tools will not work if perioperative team members operate under a "code of silence" or fear retribution for speaking up. Health care facilities must develop a just culture--a work environment in which staff members are comfortable reporting errors or near misses when compliance with procedural requirements or safeguards is not met.

As part of AORN's commitment to improving patient safety, the Association has developed the web-based Just Culture Tool Kit, which Includes

* the AORN Position Statement on Patient Safety;

* the AORN Position Statement on Creating a Patient Safety Culture;

* the AORN Guidance Statement on Creating a Patient Safety CuLture;

* a video presentation by AORN Executive Director Linda K. Groah, RN, MSN, CNOR, CNAA, FAAN; and
