40 years ago in the Aorn Journal

AORN Journal, July, 2007

The "Editorial" claims that as nurses have become busier, they have delegated responsibilities to auxiliary personnel without properly structuring guidelines for these new supportive roles. * An article on treatment of patients in heart failure states, "we stand on the threshold of an era in which mechanical circulatory assistance will be added to the armamentarium for these patients." * "News in ORbit" reports on Sim One, a life-sized mechanical robot made of fiberglass and steel that is designed to play the part of a patient for anesthesiologists in training.

* Another news item says victims suffering from burns that cover up to 40% of their bodies are now likely to recover, whereas three years earlier, the burn infection mortality rate was 35%.
