Moderate Sedation/Analgesia: Competency Assessment Module - Book Review

AORN Journal, Feb, 2003 by Regina W. Andrews

By Rosemari C. Moss 2001, 62 pp $50 paperback

This book is a tool for evaluating the basic knowledge needed to provide conscious sedation in various settings and practices. It also provides a great way to earn contact hours via independent study. Overall, the book is very well-organized, easy to read, and easy to handle. It fits in even the smallest bag for on-the-go studying and reference. The book can be navigated easily and is understandable and well-structured. Even without illustrations, the charts and glossary are helpful tools for acquiring basic knowledge about conscious sedation.

The language and writing style are easy to comprehend, precise, and to the point. This is the perfect study guide for all medical professionals in settings and practices in which conscious sedation is used and can be helpful to those who simply wish to further their knowledge about this topic. The test questions at the end of the book are easy to understand and serve as a self-evaluation. The test also can be used to earn contact hours. The number of contact hours available justify the cost of the module. I love this book and would recommend it to those seeking to educate themselves or staff members about conscious sedation.
