The Journal profiles Ella B. Wolfer, RN, winner of the Charles B. Moore award, who among her accomplishments, invented the house irrigator tip for copious irrigation. Wolfer received a plaque and $300 at the 1963 AORN Congress. * "News in ORbit" reports that scientists at Yale University are studying the possibility of providing lifetime protection from polio with an oral vaccination.

* AORN welcomes members of a new chapter, AORN of Austin, Texas, bringing the total number of local groups to 67. * In "Q&A," a reader asks whether mineral oil is self-sterilizing. The answer states that mineral oil is not bacteriostatic, but it does not support growth. It should be sterilized by dry heat.
