AORN Journal, August, 2004

Many articles focus on surgical that are unique to women. Topics include breast reconstruction after mastectomy, molar pregnancy, ectopic pregnancy, and care of pregnant surgical patients. * AORN's top legislative priorities are health care reform; medical waste; workplace safety; and HIV, tuberculosis, and hepatitis B.

* Drafts of proposed recommended practices for surgical hand scrubs and surgical attire are published for reader review and comment. * A guest editorial warns women to avoid the common but preventable "seven dwarfs of aging": weaky, leaky, sexless, wrinkled, ugly, forgetful, and wimpy. The author assures readers that these are not unavoidable processes of aging.
