40 years ago in the AORN Journal

AORN Journal, Feb, 2006

An article states that prepping and draping the plastic surgical patient is an art because of the complex dressings and casts used to hold body parts in critical positions. * A news item reports that a physician in Bogota, Columbia, is treating severe near-sightedness by removing the cornea, freezing it, and then grinding it like a lens before thawing and replacing it.

* Edith D. Hall, RN, AORN's first executive director, writes that a sufficient number of nurses are not being trained to replace current OR nurses, and now is the time to reevaluate training programs to meet the needs of the future. * "News in ORbit" reports that a London hospital is treating burn patients by keeping them afloat on a cushion of jet air for as long as five hours.
