Clinicians treat constellation of risk factors inconsistently

AORN Journal,  Feb, 2008

A survey of 750 cardiology, endocrinology, nephrology, and primary care physicians revealed a Lack of consensus in the screening, diagnosis, and management of patients with multiple cardiovascular and metabolic risk factors (eg, obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease), according to a December 11, 2007, news release from the 2007 Cardiometabolic Health Congress. The Largest number of respondents indicated that they did not follow any particular set of guidelines in treating this patient population. These findings reveal the need for more specific guidelines to convey the interrelationship between comorbidities so that clinicians can best diagnose and treat these conditions to improve patient outcomes. Survey results are available at http://www.cardiometabolic health.org.

With obesity, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease on the rise, physicians need more comprehensive guidelines [news release]. Boston, MA: Cardiometabolic Health Congress; December 11, 2007.
