The article "Fire in the OR--Developing a fire safety plan" is the basis for this AORN Journal independent study. The behavioral objectives and examination for this program were prepared by Rebecca Holm, RN, MSN, CNOR, clinical editor, with consultation from Susan Bakewell, RN, MS, BC, education program professional, Center for Perioperative Education. BEHAVIORAL OBJECTIVES

After reading and studying the article on developing a fire safety plan for the OR, the nurse will be able to

1. identify the chain of command necessary for a successful fire safety plan,

2. describe how the responsibilities of all perioperative roles are modified to incorporate fire safety elements,

3. discuss how perioperative team members are educated about the fire safety plan via an inservice program, and

4. explain the value of implementing mock fire drills that include debriefing sessions.
