Term misused

AORN Journal,  Sept, 2007  by Ed Greenspan

I would like to point out the misuse of a term on page 1176 of the June 2007 issue (Vol 85, "Cerebral aneurysm--treatment and perioperative nursing care"). In the setup for an aneurysm clipping, there is a reference to "various sizes of cottonoids." The correct statement should refer to various sizes of paddies, not cottonoids. Cottonoids refers to paddies made under the trademark of Codman, a Division of Johnson & Johnson. Cottonoids are not made of cotton--they are made of needled rayon and are supposedly cotton-like. Use of the word cottonoid conveys an endorsement of this name-brand paddie, which is probably not what was intended by the authors.
