AORN Journal, April, 2002
One distinct sign of aging is the elongation of the distance between the eye and cheek, according to a Jan 31, 2002, news release from the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. A cosmetic surgical procedure termed a cheek lift can rejuvenate the sagging soft tissues of the cheek and lower eyelid.
Surgeons performing a cheek lift must have a high level of surgical skill and extensive knowledge of anatomy. There are several ways to perform the procedure. All methods, however, avoid the standard facelift incisions in front of the ear. A cheek lift also allows the surgeon to reposition the soft tissues of the midface to achieve a more youthful facial contour. The procedure is more beneficial than a standard facelift for patients whose aging is limited to the midface region.
The cheek lift is not a new procedure. Many surgeons have performed the procedure for years. Modifications to techniques, however, have resulted in more reliable methods of midface rejuvenation.
