40 years ago in the AORN Journal

AORN Journal, Oct, 2004

Plans are under way for the 12th annual Congress in New York City, the birthplace of AORN. * An article applauds Elizabeth Bruggeman, RN, winner of the 1964 Charles B. Moore Award for outstanding contribution to improvement of nursing care in the OR. Bruggeman won for her assistance in designing a unique, $3.5 million surgical suite, which included a patient waiting area, central supply areas, a communication system, and a food Automat for OR personnel.

* A nurse working in Vietnam reports on her experiences, including treating patients with burns from phosphorous bomb explosions. * "AORN Proceedings" notes the inaugural meeting of the Association of Theatre Nurses of Great Britain.
