40 years ago in the AORN Journal

AORN Journal,  Oct, 2007

An article introduces the compression plate technique for internal fixation of fractures. The technique had been recently introduced in the United States by Swiss surgeons. * An author discusses job evaluation systems for determining equal pay for equal work in the OR. * "News in ORbit" reports on the first successful pancreas transplant. As of two months after the surgery, the patient, who was diabetic, no longer required insulin, and his blood sugar had remained in the normal range. * The Scientific Exhibits Committee for the AORN Congress announces a scrub gown contest for design of the most chic and unique scrub attire. The OR gown design must still be practical, however.
