NURSING COURSE 101

AORN's Perioperative Nursing Course 101 is a convenient program for educating and orienting new perioperative nurses. The comprehensive curriculum covers 25 critical topics in a scripted lecture format and is designed to be integrated with your facility's specific policies and procedures.

AORN Focus on Leadership.

July 25-27, 2003, Westin Tabor Center, Denver

Learn to meet the challenges of being a perioperative leader as you network and exchange ideas with other AORN volunteer leaders. Gain valuable leadership skills and become energized listening to expert speakers during this three-day program. You will be able to apply your leadership knowledge and skills in both your personal and professional life.

Weekday Immersion In Nursing Informatics (WINI).

Sept 24-25, 2003, Radisson Hotel, Denver

The WINI program was developed by three informatics nurses and is certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). The program follows the content outline for the ANCC Nursing Informatics Certification Examination.

Attendees will examine key concepts of nursing informatics. There will be ample opportunity to network with faculty members and peers about nursing informatics issues. Learn about the challenges others face and strategies they use to meet these challenges. Registration is limited to 50 participants.

AORN Multispecialty Conference.

Sept 25-28, 2003, Marriott Metro Center, Denver

Education content for this conference will relate to leadership and management; ambulatory surgery; informatics; nurse educators; clinical nurse specialists; business, industry, and consulting; and rural and small hospitals. Preconference education sessions presented on Thursday, Sept 25, will be three-contact-hour in-depth sessions or, for those in the specialty of ambulatory surgery, an entire day of critical issues. On Sunday, Sept 28, special sessions will be held for educators and nurses working in rural or small hospitals.

Patient Safety--Laser Concepts in Health Care.

Oct 23, 2003, Opryland Resort and Convention Center, Nashville.

Penny Smalley, RN, will present a special program geared toward protecting staff members and patients from the hazards inherent in the use of medical laser equipment. This all-day session is designed to introduce the fundamental concepts of laser science as applied to the technology and safety required of perioperative professionals working with and responsible for class 3b and class 4 medical lasers.

AORN Multispecialty Conference.

Oct 23-25, 2003, Opryland Resort and Convention Center, Nashville.

Education content planned for this conference will relate to clinical practice issues. Specialty areas included are advanced technology, cardiothoracics, neurosurgery, orthopedics, pediatrics, and RN first assisting. In-depth preconference education sessions will be offered on Thursday, Oct 23. Several of these offerings are hands-on programs.

Eighth Conference on Infectious Diseases.

Dec 8-10, 2003, Kimberly-Clark Corporate Facility, Roswell, Ga.

This conference brings together a nationally recognized faculty of leading infectious disease professionals. The format will provide attendees the opportunity to obtain the latest information on emerging infectious disease threats and provide strategies to protect patients and staff members and decrease morbidity and mortality related to nosocomial infections, including surgical site infections. Attendance is limited to 84.

Visit http://www.aorn.org/education for the latest quality continuing education. Home Study Programs published since November 2000 now are available online. Use these programs to earn contact hours and stay abreast of the latest nursing information.

Clinical Educator Certificate Program. This program is a convenient, comprehensive, distance-learning program that provides the information needed to develop education programs successfully for nurses in your facility. The program is offered by AORN in collaboration with the University of Colorado School of Nursing, Denver. The three courses, which provide a total of six academic credits, are credentialed at the graduate level but also are applicable to most undergraduate programs. The next three-session offering is
