Learn and have fun at AORN's 51st Congress in beautiful San Diego

Network, learn, and have fun with your colleagues from around the world at AORN s 51st Congress in San Diego, March 21 to 25, 2004. This year's Congress theme is "Unity: Perioperative Partnerships."

REGISTRATION

The registration brochure, which was mailed in October 2003, provides event dates and housing, airline, tour, and registration information. You also can register online at http://www.aorn.org/Congress/Attendees/registration.htm. Member rates range from $415 to $525 for the week. The early registration deadline is Feb 6, 2003. PreCongress registration will open at 6 AM on Saturday, March 20, 2004.

HOUSING

AORN has secured blocks of rooms in hotels in the downtown and Mission Valley areas of San Diego. Room prices range from $92 to $229 for a single room. Detailed housing information is available online at http://www.aorn.org/Congress/Attendees/housing_info.htm.

EDUCATION

The 51st Congress education programs encompass a variety of topics, including

* leadership,

* management,

* clinical,

* informatics,

* ambulatory surgery; and

* professional issues.

Concurrent sessions are designed to give you the opportunity to customize your education programs and assist you in preparing for your professional future. Many of the education sessions provide insight and tactics to assist you in delivering safe patient care. PreCongress education sessions on Saturday, March 20, 2004, are in-depth programs that provide tools you can implement immediately.

You will have the opportunity to review Research/Evidence-Based Posters and Clinical Innovation/Improvement Posters. Contact hours are awarded for continuing nursing education content. Four sessions will be presented in Spanish for international Spanish-speaking attendees.

MANAGEMENT FOCUS

The management sessions on Tuesday, March 23, and Wednesday, March 24, will focus on important workforce and operational issues. These sessions will help you develop or expand your leadership and management knowledge and skills.

The Managers' Reception will be held Tuesday, March 23, from 5:15 PM to 6:15 PM to provide managers with an opportunity to network with representatives of exhibiting companies. On Wednesday, March 24, and Thursday, March 25, managers will have exclusive access to the exhibit floor from 8:30 AM to 10 AM, to get answers to specific questions related to surgical products and services.

STUDENT AND FACULTY

Wednesday, March 23, AORN will provide special student nurse and academic faculty focus programs. Student nurses are invited to attend Congress free of charge to learn about the exciting opportunities perioperative nursing offers. The day will begin with a continental breakfast and networking session at 7 AM. The special student program will take place from 8 AM to 3 PM and includes both lecture and hands-on components on topics such as aseptic technique, safe positioning techniques, and patient safety considerations for patients undergoing surgery. Students also will have the opportunity to visit the exhibit floor.

Full-time academic faculty members are invited to attend Congress free of charge on Wednesday, March 23. The day will begin with a continental breakfast and networking session at 7 AM. The special academic faculty program will be held from 8:20 AM to 11:40 AM and include sessions on how to use the perioperative arena for a medical-surgical learning experience and how to use the Perioperative Nursing Data Set during a perioperative clinical experience.

GENERAL SESSIONS

AORN has assembled a motivational group of General Session speakers that will excite, educate, and re-energize you. Each day, these speakers will provide you with information, innovative ideas, and a renewed sense of self to use in your professional and personal life.

SUNDAY, MARCH 21, 3:30 TO 4:45 PM KEYNOTE SESSION (1.5 CH)

Maximizing Individual and Team Effectiveness--Bob Moawad

In this dynamic presentation, Bob Moawad will introduce you to these exciting, potential-releasing concepts:

* how to maximize your potential,

* how to develop the right attitude,

* how to enhance relationships with others,

* how to create a winning team,

* how to develop group unity, and

* how to build individual and team esteem.

This session will provide the tools needed to help foster perioperative partnerships.

SUNDAY, MARCH 21, 5 TO 6:30 PM GENERAL SESSION (1.8 CH)

The Soul of Time: A Transformation to Mindfulness--John Izzo

How we use our time and experience the moments of our lives determines the level of soul fulfillment we experience. Time has become a pressing issue for many of us. In this powerful and profound presentation, discover how to live in the moment and how to gain more fulfillment from the time you have. This presentation will use wit, wisdom, and humor. You will leave this session filled with practical ideas for experiencing more soul in your life.
