20 years ago in the AORN Journal

AORN Journal,  May, 2005

The "Board Report" states that the Board has approved establishing an ad hoc Committee on Ambulatory Surgery to develop strategies that address the needs of nurses practicing in ambulatory settings. * A number of articles discuss aspects of nursing research. Topics include collaboration between clinical nurses and researchers, how to obtain AORN endorsement and funding for research projects, how to critique research articles, and protecting human subjects.

* Another article describes a new method of pain management--use of intraspinal narcotics. * "Ethics" discusses sanctity of life versus quality of life and how these differing viewpoints affect clinical decision making about issues such as do-not-resuscitate orders and abortion.
