Continuing education articles. AORN Journal continuing education articles published since May 2004 are available online at http://www.aornjournal.org. Articles are available in portable document format (ie, PDF) to print and complete. Use these programs to earn continuing education contact hours and stay abreast of the latest nursing information.
Standards program. An independent study program based on AORN's 2007 Standards, Recommended Practices, and Guidelines is available for 16.6 continuing education contact hours. A minimum score of 80% is necessary to earn the continuing education contact hours. The deadline for submitting the posttest and evaluation is March 31, 2008. Perioperative Professional Excellence Criteria (Magnet Model). This independent study was developed to assist facilities in achieving Magnet Status through perioperative excellence. Using the American Nurses Credentialing Center's (ANCC's) Magnet Recognition Program Application Manual as the basis for the work, AORN has developed a series of articles identifying perioperative sources of evidence related to the 14 Forces of Magnetism. The articles were reviewed by members of the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program. SafetyNet: Lessons Learned from Close Calls in the OR. This independent study showcases SafetyNet, AORN's anonymous, near miss reporting system, and includes analyses of close calls in the OR using stories submitted to SafetyNet. Each case study describes a series of events that did not proceed as planned and that resulted in a close call in which a patient narrowly avoided harm.
