Peers. * A Congress report states that a total of 303 delegates were qualified to vote at the 14th Congress in San Diego, Calif; 264 cast ballots, with four votes being disqualified. A Bylaws amendment passed by the House of Delegates created the office of President-elect.

* In "OR Fact and Principle," a reader asks whether the practice of using ether for preoperative skin prep is dangerous. The answer indicates that in addition to being expensive, toxic, and irritating, ether markedly increases the risk for explosions in the OR. * An article discusses ovarian vein varicosities, which may be responsible for recurrent right pyelonephritis in some women.
